ASTM A790 covers seamless and straight-seam welded ferritic/austenitic stainless steel pipe intended for general-purpose applications.
ASTM A790 UNS S32900 Seamless Pipe is intended to be used in applications where high strength and exceptional resistance to corrosion is desired at moderate temperature. Generally, the high alloyed chemistry permits these pipes to be used for marine engineering applications. The ASTM A789 UNS 32900 Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe is known to offer very good resistance to corrosion. However, this duplex stainless steel particularly exhibits superior resistance, when applied in chloride bearing environments. The higher content of chromium gives the alloy superior resistance to oxidation. A feature of high chromium steels is their ability to generate a passivated oxide layer, which is self repairing.
